Achieving “high performance at low cost” is an advantage of Ampt DC-Ampt Storage.

Unlike conventional AC coupled systems, Ampt DC-Coupled Storage Systems (Ampt DC-Coupled Storage) are structured to thoroughly improve the efficiency of power conversion and control. A string optimizer is built into each string, and by performing maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for each string, it is possible to maximize the power obtained from the solar panel. Furthermore, by doubling the number of modules that can be connected to each string, the number of combiners, disconnects, and Hohman wiring required has been cut in half.

Also, a high fixed voltage DC bus is used in this system, which improves voltage stability and makes control easier. The DC/AC ratio is also 3:1 higher than before, and it is a configuration where more panels can be connected to the inverter. The cost of a battery converter has been reduced to half of the conventional one, and by simplifying the control system on the DC side, response performance to the power system has been improved.

Furthermore, the inverters used have up to 33% higher output, which reduces the cost of equipment per watt. Overall, fewer transformers and interconnect devices are required, and the unit price for each is low, making the overall system a cost-effective configuration.
